Social media icons, menu buttons, form elements, there are any number of icons on a website than can be replaced with a toolset like Font Awesome. This consistency is also Font Awesome’s only real downside, the icons can be too generic and a bit boring. For example, we swapped the icons on NYCROPHONE and the artists icon just isn’t very expressive. The only other issue is one common to any 3rd party hosted code, including jQuery, make sure you have a backup if you choose to use their CDN. There are tons, and tons, of free, 5$, and other cheap icon sets that can be used but they can suffer from the same generic look too. Making custom icons, in SVG would be the best route but the time to make them is usually put elsewhere.
